Exporting Mozilla Firefox Bookmarks

Mac OS

To export your bookmarks for Firefox on Mac OS, follow these directions for the browser you would like to use:

Chrome

  1. On your computer, close any other browsers that are open.
  2. Open Chrome.
  3. At the top right, click the More button in the top right. It looks like three vertical dots.
  4. Click Bookmarks and then Import bookmarks and settings.
  5. Choose "Mozilla Firefox" as the application for data you want to import.
  6. Click Import.

Safari

  1. Click the File button in the menu bar at the top of the screen, next to Safari.
  2. Find the "Import From" menu item and place your mouse over it.
  3. Choose "Mozilla Firefox"
  4. Make sure to select all the data you would like to import

Windows

To export your bookmarks for Firefox on Windows, follow these directions for the browser you would like to use:

Chrome

  1. On your computer, close any other browsers that are open.
  2. Open Chrome.
  3. At the top right, click the More button in the top right. It looks like three vertical dots.
  4. Click Bookmarks and then Import bookmarks and settings.
  5. Choose "Mozilla Firefox" as the application for data you want to import.
  6. Click Import.

 Internet Explorer

  1. Click the Bookmarks button and select Show All Bookmarks to open the Library window.

  2. From the toolbar on the Library window, click the Import and Backup button (star with arrows in a circle pattern) and choose Export Bookmarks to HTML
  3. In the Export Bookmarks File window that opens, choose a location to save the file, which is named bookmarks.html by default. The desktop is usually a good spot, but any place that is easy to remember will work. Remember this location!
  4. Click the Save button. The Export Bookmarks File window will close.
  5. Close the Library window.
  6. Open Internet Explorer
  7. Press the ALT key
  8. Click the File menu in the menu bar
  9. Find the button labeled Import and Export
  10. In the Import/Export Settings window, click to select Import from a file and then click the Next button.
  11. Select Favorites and then click the Next button.
  12. Click the Browse button. The Select Bookmark File window will open.
  13. Locate the "bookmarks.html" file you previously created and then click the Open button
  14. Click the Next button
  15. Click on the Favorites folder and click on the Import button.
  16. It may take a minute or two for your bookmarks to be imported, depending on how many you have. A final page will appear which lets you know that bookmarks were successfully imported. Click on the Finish button to complete the import.
