Using an App or Text Codes with your SSO Account

Starting in March 2022, we will be deploying additional security measures to better protect your SSO account.  You will see an additional prompt when you log in using your SSO account.  This additional prompt asks for a code and appears after you enter your username and password.

 

The following instruction will guide you on setting up the use of an app or text messaging in order to receive the aforementioned code.

 

 

 

Open a web browser and go to myaccount.microsoft.com, then enter your SSO account username.

 

Enter your SSO account password.

 

Click the Next button to proceed with setting up an app, text messaging, or both.

 

 

 

Set up the Microsoft Authenticator App

 

 

 

You are now presented with the following screen.  Follow the steps below before clicking the Next button shown below.

 

Download the Microsoft Authenticator app from your device's app store.

 

 

Once the app is downloaded to your smart phone, proceed by clicking the Next button.

 

You are now presented with the following screen.  Follow the steps below before clicking the Next button shown below.

 

On your smart phone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app and agree to the privacy statement.

 

 

 

Tap the Add work or school account button.

 

 

 

Tap the Add account button.

 

 

 

Tap the Work or school account option.

 

 

 

Tap the Scan QR code option.

 

 

 

Allow the Microsoft Authenticator app access to your smart phone's camera by tapping OK.

 

 


Move your attention back to your computer and proceed by clicking the Next button.

You are now presented with the screen below.  Follow the steps below before clicking the Next button shown below.

 

Move your attention back to your smartphone, and with the Microsoft Authenticator app open, scan the QR code shown above.

 

 

 

The Microsoft Authenticator app will display your account after scanning the QR code.

 

 

 

You may now click the Next button, as shown below.

 

You have completed the set up of the Microsoft Authenticator app.

 

 

 

 

 

Set up Text Codes

 

 

Ensure you have opened myaccount.microsoft.com in a web browser (as shown in the first few images at the beginning of this article), then click I want to set up a different method.

Select Phone from the dropdown box listing, then click the Confirm button.

 

Enter your cell phone number, then click the Next button.

 

On your cell phone, open the text message containing your verification code.  An example message is shown below.

 

 

 

Enter the verification code sent via text message, then click the Next button.

You are now shown the SMS verified screen, click the Next button.

You have completed the set up of text codes.  Click the Done button.
