You will need either a USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter or a USB-C to VGA Multiport adapter to connect any computer with a USB-C connector, like the M1 MacBook Air.

The adapter can be connected to either USB-C port.  There is a USB-C port on both adapters that will allow you to connect your power cable, so you will have a free USB-C port on your M1 MacBook Air.

If you have an ActivPanel, you will use the provided USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter to connect your laptop to your panel. Please see the picture below on how to connect the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter with the USB-C cable to your power adapter.

If you have a Promethean Board (Middle Schools) you will use the provided USB-C to VGA Multiport adapter to connect your laptop to your board.  Please see the picture below on how to connect the USB-C to VGA Multiport adapter with the USB-C cable to your power adapter.

HDMI Cables and Connecting to the Ports on your Panel

Elementary and High School teachers might have 2 different types of HDMI cables for your Panel:

1. The new HDMI to HDMI cable that was given to you with your M1

2. HDMI to Mini-Display-Port cable that was previously used to connect to your older MacBook Air.  This cable should be kept for awhile for student teachers or anyone who may still use the older MacBook Air

IMPORTANT - The HDMI cable and the USB cable (for touch features while connected to your computer) function in pairs.  In order for touch to function, the USB cable must be plugged into the same input as the HDMI cable.  So you may need to move your USB cable, depending on how you are using your board.

For example, when you are teaching using your M1, if you have your HDMI cable plugged into HDMI1 on the front of your panel, you must also plug the USB cable into USB1 on the front of your panel.

If you are using HDMI2 on the back of your panel, the cables must be plugged into HDMI2 and TOUCH2.

Be sure to choose the appropriate source by pressing the Source button on the front of the Panel.

You may need to change your Display Resolution on your laptop so that it is the correct size when connected to your Panel.  See this knowledge base article for help: ActivPanel V6 Display Resolution

If what you see on the Panel does not "mirror" what you see on your laptop, you will need to Enable Display Mirroring on your laptop.

To get your computer audio to play through your panel via the HDMI cable, you must change the audio output on your laptop.  Go to System Preferences --> Sound --> Output and choose your Panel audio.

You also may want to change how often your display turns off.  See this knowledge base article for help:  Changing your Battery and Energy Use Settings
