This method can be used to create an assignment where a student reads aloud to the teacher.

Option 1: Students can use the built-in recording tools in Canvas to record “on the fly.”  Option 1 is best for short recordings.

Option 2: Students can record the file ahead of time using the Camera App on their Chromebook and then upload the file to Canvas.  To record audio only in the Camera App, students can close the camera privacy screen.  Option 2 is best for longer recordings.

While in Canvas, Create an assignment by clicking on the + Assignment button

Name the assignment and fill in the appropriate details.  IMPORTANT: For Submission Type, choose “Online”, and check the box for “Media Recordings”.  This will enable students to use the built-in recording tools or to upload a file that was previously recorded using their Camera App.  When finished setting up the assignment, click “Save and Publish” at the bottom of the page.

To check the submitted assignments, while in the specific assignment select SpeedGrader.

Select “click here to view” the uploaded media file.

The file will open and play automatically.  Click the play button to listen again.

Enter the grade and comments, then click Submit.
