Using a VPN to connect a Mac to the USCSD network

These instructions will guide you on connecting a Mac to the Upper St. Clair School District network using a VPN connection.  A VPN connection secures your link to the USCSD network when your device is not directly connected to the USCSD network.

Open the Self Service app on your district-issued Mac and find the SonicWall Mobile Connect app, then click the Install button.  Note that if you do not see the SonicWall Mobile Connect app listed, you must sign in using your SSO account and the Log In button in the bottom left-hand corner of the Self Service app.

As the app installs, you will see a status circle.  Once the installation is complete, the Open button will appear.  Click on the Open button.

Click the Accept button at the data use policy prompt.

Click Add connection.

Enter USCSD in the Name box, then enter in the Server box.  Click the Next button.

If you receive the following prompt, click the Save button.  Note: If you encounter this prompt, you are most likely connected to the school district network.  A VPN connection requires that you are outside of the school district network.

Click the Allow button at the 'Add VPN Configurations' prompt.

Note: The following steps must be performed when you are not connected to the school district network, ie. you are connected to your home network.

Click the Connect button.

Enter your SSO account username in the Username box (note that you do not enter in this box), then enter your SSO account password in the Password box.  Next, enter in the Domain box and click the Login button.

Enter the code presented on your Code Card, or by the Microsoft Authenticator app, in the Response box, then click the Login button.  Note: You must have previously been issued a Code Card or set up additional security using the Microsoft Authenticator app for your SSO account as per the following Helpdesk article -

Once your connection is set up, you will see Connected in the status area.  When you are done using your VPN connection, click the Disconnect button.
